So, I’ve admired Chris Pearson’s design work for a while now. The dude is, simply put, a design genius. Cutline was my introduction to his work, and it’s still one of my favorite free layouts. (Sorry, you non-WordPress folks, this one’s WP only, as far as I know. But hey, look! Another reason to switch!) He put out a premium theme, “Thesis“. I had my eye on it for a long, long time (since its release), but I just wasn’t quite ready to spend $87 on a LAYOUT, for goodness’ sake. I mean, hello? That is a shitton of yarn I could buy.
Last Friday, I finally went ahead and bought the theme, and I’ve been kicking myself ever since for not going ahead and doing it sooner. Thesis has made rearranging and retooling things so, so much easier. Instead of focusing on how to make Sidebar1 go to the left while Sidebar2 stays to the right, I can just click an option, et voila. Done. Which leaves me to focus on stuff like headers, background images, and…oh, right, CONTENT.
But it wasn’t so easy for me at first. I screwed up some file transferring (hello? how do you hose that up? IDK, but I did) and didn’t realize it was my screw up. After asking in the forums and receiving no response, I did what any good Twitterati would do – I searched for Chris on Twitter and sent an @ to him about Thesis. He responded, and although he could have been an asshole, he wasn’t. He was actually kind of cool. AND OMG! CHRIS PEARSON WAS FUCKING TWEETING ME!
For those of you who fail to understand my excitement, I don’t even know how to explain. It’s not like Pearson is a celebrity exactly (although I think he’s semi-famous in the WP design world), but he’s not just one of us regular schlumps, either. For me, though, he’s been a design god, so having tweets from him was pretty damn fabulous. And the exchange went on for a few tweets. Then he dropped me like I was hot. (Hot in the stolen or temperature sense, not in the “OMFG, I’d hit that” sense.) My heart was broken…for about five seconds. Then I got over it, quit following him and moved on with my life.
I STG, though, I said not one fucking word about “Sowing the Seeds of Love,” y’all. Now I kind of wish I would have, then there’d be a reason he dumped me on my ass.
P.S. Chris, if you read this, I still love Thesis, but you? You’re just a regular dude now. Hell hath no fury and alla that. ;)
