TWoP, what has happened to you?

by Steph on August 5, 2008

In days gone by, I looked to TWoP for hilarious recaps of shows I loved…and loved to hate. (Charmed would be a prime example of the latter.) For some reason, though, I’d sort of forgotten about TWoP. I guess forgotten is the wrong word since it was more that I found other things to do online.

Recently, though, I’ve started going through the archives to re-read (in some cases, re-re-read which is different than re-re-respect) old recaps. (Again, Charmed. Stop laughing.) I also went to read recaps of new shows. Imagine my surprise when I find the garbage they’re calling “weecaps”.

Where is the sardonic commentary on the show’s exposition? Where are the mocking jabs about ridiculous plots? Where are the calls for continuity checks? WHERE IS THE SNARK?

I’ll tell you where it’s not – in the weecaps, which I’ll now dub weecraps. In reading the latest weecrap from “My Name Is Earl”, I actually goggled (which is different than Googling, but that’s another post) at how terrible the writing was and how badly the episode had been recapped. I’m not even sure how to describe it really.

Okay. Probably you know someone who cannot tell a joke properly. Like they’re always screwing up the punchline or the timing or something, right? Try as they might, they just cannot tell the joke? Okay, imagine someone like that person telling trying to tell a funny story about someone telling a really good joke, and then, you’ll get an idea of what that weecrap was like.

I surfed through some of the other weecraps, and yeah. All the same. Wing Chun, Sars, Glark? I understand why you left. I weep, but I understand. (Also? Sorry about being so late to this particular party. Maybe I shouldn’t abandon websites for months on end.)
