superb cast

I’ve tried like hell to get pictures of the cats, but I haven’t been able to get a single one that was worth a damn. Toffee hates the camera, so he won’t even look at me when I try to take his picture.

Do you see what I'm saying, people?

I can’t get pictures of Leo because the second I try, he comes up and rubs my legs or gets in my face. I guess he’s making sure the camera isn’t eating my face? IDK.

Extreme close-ups are not hawt.

Leo is WAY more demanding than Toffee. Toffee just fusses at me; he doesn’t actually force himself into my lap. I love both of them like crazy. They have such awesome personalities – very loveydovey, as their previous owners promised. They’re also hella-playful which was a surprise since they’re not kittens anymore. (Not that they’re old at 4 and 6, but these guys are seriously playful. Except they won’t play with the laser pointer. Dahell? I thought all cats loved that shit.)

They sleep with me and Bill. (Well, they sleep with me really, since they’re on my side of the bed hogging the covers.) They’ve warmed up to the two older kids a LOT, but they’re still shy with Tricia. They’ll let her pet them, and they’ve FINALLY quit hiding whenever she’s up. (I was worried about that.) They’re also figuring out she’s the sucker who’ll get them piles and piles of food if they fuss enough. Toffee fusses at her a lot, and she goes to find a treat for him. So he’s reeaaaaaallly warming up to her. Heh.

We’ve also given them about a kazillion nicknames. Toffee is SofTof, Shoffee, Tigger, etc. Leo has been Mimi-o, Mimi-licious, Meemer Lemur, etc. What cracks me up is that they answer to all the names we’ve called them, but they know which one we mean when we use particular names. Smart, right? Leo knows when he hears Meemer Lemur, it’s time for snuggling, and he comes running. Toffee hears, “Shoffee! Pretty boy!” and comes running. Toffee will also sit and talk to me which makes Bill laugh at us. (Leo doesn’t really “talk” much. He’s more into headbutting my face as often as possible. But I digress.) Here’s a typical Steph & Toffee convo:
Me: ShofTof, who’s mama’s boy?
Toffee: MEOWWWW!!
Me: That’s right! You’re mama’s schmoopy baby. Who loves mama?
Toffee: MEEEEOOOOWWWW!!
Me: I know you do.

Ridiculous and hella-crazy, I know, but the cats seem to love it. Because they’re awesome like that. They’re like little babies who will never grow up and say, “No, Mommy, no hug! CAN (Tricia-ese for Kai-Lan)!” when I want to snuggle. Or roll their eyes and say, “Gaw! I’m not a BABY!” when I say, “Give your old mom a hugarooni.” (Yes, I ask my kids to give me hugaroonis. Don’t judge me.) Toffee and Leo are always down for some Mommy-love.

See?

He's mama's pretty boy, yes, him is.

Please to stop looking at that baby and pet me before I am forced to headbutt your face again.
