No, really. I got nothin’. Bupkis. Diddly. Jacksquat. It’s not that I don’t have things about which I’d like to talk; it’s that I apparently don’t have the ability to post them coherently. But that’s just how Mondays work around here, I think. Also, I’m busy coming up with a new design to go with a new header Myra very thoughtfully made for me. It’s gorgeous, and it deserves to be on a gorgeous blog.
Anyway, while I’m busy coming up with a new design and some coherent posts, how about we discuss the following?
1. Alanis’ song “Ironic” doesn’t actually have any examples of irony.
2. While I’m not Christian, I pray the rosary daily.
3. I’m a passive-aggressive person who hates passive-aggressive behavior.
I could go on, but really? I think the Alanis thing alone will keep the discussion lively for a while.

While Alanis got skewered for that song, (and rightly so) it WAS part of the best album she ever put out. (Because nothing compares to fury as inspiration for good song writing.) And whenever I hear it, it takes me back to 1995, on my way to Medieval Times with my friend Rachel to go flirt with some skeazy pretend knights. Ah, memories.

Alanis. Woo. If that album isn’t a snapshot of the zeitgeist of that time, I don’t know what is. Or maybe it was because of how old I was then, who knows. But anyway. would it be ironic that “Ironic” isn’t ironic? :-D

Dude, but you’re aware of your P/A tendencies and you try to fix that. That’s what makes you different.
And I hate Alanis, so there’s no discussion there for me.
And when in doubt, pray a rosary. LOL

Lindsey - I love “Jagged Little Pill.” I still play it and sing along. However, that song? Makes me give my kids a lecture on irony v. tragedy every damn time.
Noel - So maybe she was being ironic after all? My head, it spins.

d - Hate Alanis? I don’t comprehend that.

I just do dude. Her whiny voice and her lyrics bug me, as does her whole personality. I just want to punch her.
I don’t know. I just hatez on her.

d - To each her own. :)

i was once witness to one of the most heated “what is the definition of irony?” debates of all time… i remember seeing body parts lying around afterward. so i won’t be involved in the alanis thing - except to say that i love that album. one of my all time favorites to this day, and totally brings back some KICK ASS memories from 1995 when i first moved to DC… good times, indeed.
(ack, just read d’s comment… can’t we all just get along?!)
if you’re bored, you can check out my blog… all i did was copy/paste (after ctrl-a/copy/paste/find/replace all the real names of my family members - i hope!) an IM between my brother and i re: jews, fags & marriage.
oh, and i hate the passive-aggressives. and i’m not christian. well, i AM, but i certainly don’t pray the rosary. but i will if you want me to… you know, in order to get bill that job in ORGAN.
okay, shutting up now.

Kendra - Wooo! I got comment-love while you’re on vacation!
MoFM - I just left a comment on it. Your brother had me CTFU. Also, you can sacrifice chickens if you think it’ll help Bill get this job. lol.

Is #2 ironic?
I’m all confused now.

@Deb - LOL!

Deb - Maybe? A little?

black fly in your chardonnay. that’s not irony, it just makes me sad. but i’d drink it anyway. after i plucked out the fly.
happy monday to you.

Myra - I couldn’t do it, but I can totally eat a cookie off the floor after I dust it off. So, yeah.
16 myra // Jul 14, 2008 at 10:30 pm
if it had anything to do with chocolate, i wouldn’t even need to dust it. dusting is for sissies.

Myra - That? Made me snort. Which was kind of painful given that I had a mouthful of soda which totally went the wrong way.

I like Alanis and agree that was her best work to date. I do remember all the talk about the definition of irony and I say “artistic license.”

Mel - Well, Noel’s still got me chewing on whether or not Alanis was being ironic by titling the song “Ironic.”
