Meme-a-licious or “You Had Me at…”

by Steph on May 24, 2008

I love memes. We’ve discussed this before. So when I saw MoFM’s meme, I was thrilled. And then heartbroken because she didn’t pick me. Then I was okay because her picks? Were good picks. Also, I know she’s totally my BFF and knew I would just know that the whole thing about not having to pick your favorite blog EVAR!! meant that she knew I already knew my blog is totally her favorite. If blogs were cell phones, my blog would totally be in her Fave Five. Or her Alltel circle. Or something. But I digress.

San Diego Momma did pick me for her take on this meme. I was happy, but then I realized that meant she’d already been tagged, and HOW COULD I TAG HER IF SHE’S ALREADY BEEN TAGGED?!? Then I remembered about the “doesn’t have to be your favorite five” clause, and I started breathing again. Also, the post Deb chose to represent me to all her readers? Surprising choice, but one of which I’m proud to be the author. I still stand by every word of that sucker.

Probably by now you just want me to do the effing meme already…or at least explain the effing rules. So, for those of you who don’t click links in posts, here are the rules (per MoFM, it is her meme, after all):
“I want to hear which specific post got you hooked on the blogs that you read regularly. You only have to choose 5 blogs. This way, you won’t feel bad for leaving anyone out. And it can be 5 RANDOM blogs. You don’t have to claim these 5 blogs as your 5 FAVORITE blogs. Get what I’m getting’ at? Good.”

First up, “Missypedia“. Okay, so Missy is totally my, IDK, BFF, but her food blog makes me want to try new things. Her food blog has made me seriously reconsider my hatred of all things that might possibly be vegetables. I even thought about trying mushrooms once…then I remembered that mushrooms are Mother Nature’s athlete’s foot, and I got over it. This recipe, though? OMG! YUM! And easy-peasy. I promised Missy to adopt an orphan and name it after her for that recipe.

Next up, “So anyway…“. If you haven’t already added this one to your Google reader, go do that. I’ll wait. This post was the one that got me forever hooked. Finally, I wasn’t the only mom in the world who thought letting a little girl take care of some potentially embarrassing issues (hairy pits, hairy legs, unibrow) was making her “grow up too fast”.

One La Costa Mom” is another blog on my list of must-reads. This post? Yup. That’s the one. If I could have kissed Melanie’s face that day, I might have done that. Which might have weirded her out and made her not like me, so it’s probably good that I couldn’t kiss her face that day.

We Make Three” is one of those crafty, artsy type people who makes really killer wall art out of like toilet paper rolls and tape. She’s MacGyver’ing crafts. And they look fabulous. I would hate her, but Myra is one of those people it’s absolutely impossible to hate because she’s just so darn nice. This post, however, made me LOL.

Cupcake Martini” had me with her blog’s name really, but this post sealed the deal. She’s another one of those artsy, crafty types. She’s also busy being a “Dirty Girl”, and she doesn’t post as much as she used to. I’m sort of hoping this meme will inspire her to COME BACK TO BLOGLAND. Oh. Sorry.

Now. Your turn.

I’m so glad you did this.

But in other news, the post I picked was the VERY first thing I read by you and it holds a special place in my heart.

It represented all the things I like about your blog that keeps me coming back: your straight talk, your honesty, smarts, humor (rooster worship! HA!) and ADD. :)

No really, it’s all those things.

From that post, I could sense you as a person and I liked it.

Of course, there are 15 gajillion other things you wrote since and before that I loved, loved, loved, but I had to go with the first love.

“From that post, I could sense you as a person and I liked it.”

I meant I liked “you.”

Unless you’ve got something to tell me.

steph, we are BFFs. this will never change.

when crafting the meme, i actually went back and forth about 18 times on which 5 blogs to include… first, i had 8 blogs that i was going to mention (yours was one of them.) and then i was all, “i’m making the rules, i can’t break them!” wanting to make it as authentic as possible, i narrowed it down to five blogs. five blogs that i remembered, in great detail, that first post. the post that got me to come back every day – often several times in a day – to that blog.

your blog? i couldn’t remember one, specific post… because when i first visited your blog i stayed on for 45 minutes watching video rants and reading archives. i love ALL of you, steph… i can’t help it.

Myra – Well, you’re very welcome. You don’t think of yourself as crafty?? Puh-lease! That wall collage you made? That was crafty!

Deb – I liked your pick. I really did. I’m also glad it got you hooked ’cause you’re one of my other BFFs. Also? I’m sad that I don’t get to reveal anything about my gender because that would make for a fabulous rant, wouldn’t it? Like, “Oh, and guys? SURPRISE! I’m a boy AND a girl!” I bet that would get my traffic up.

Missy- I love you, too. Also, the little Korean boy we adopted doesn’t realize “Melissa” is a girl’s name. So mum’s the word, okay?

MoFM – See, I totally knew that. Like I knew you’d know I didn’t pick your blog ’cause HELLOOOOO? Everyone is picking your blog, and I figure you’ll be doing this meme for the rest of your life.

Chicken bake FTW!! For reals dude. That won me over. I’m also trying those blueberry muffins next, because those–look sinfully good.

*Sniff*Sniff I’m so happy! And you know I luv you, right? You’re my regular (ooh that sounded kinky) and I so appreciate you stopping by every day. It gives me warm fuzzies.

I think that post is the best I’ve done so far, so I thank you for choosing it. And you could have kissed me. I’m secure enough in my sexuality. ;^)

I made a similar recipe as Missy’s in my crockpot that turned out awesome. There were no noodles, I’ll have to try it that way next time.

I got pit hair early too and was allowed to Nair it after my mom caught me twirling it absentmindedly while watching TV.

What? You mean everyone doesn’t have a jet at their disposal? You can use ours anytime. *Snort*

And borrowed underwear, especially from your parents, is just plain gross!

Thanks for sharing the links, I will definitely have to stop by those sites and cruise around a bit.

Melanie – I wouldn’t stop if I didn’t love you right back, promise. You write good stuff. :)

That post? Was something I’ve felt so freaking often. I’m all about Positive Discipline, of course, but even with that, there comes a time when parents have to make the decisions because kids can be dumb.

Missy’s got a ton of fabulous recipes over there. My only beef (hee.) with her is that she uses mushrooms a lot, but she alwys tells me to take them out. LOLOL.

I so know what you mean about this meme giving you new stuff to read – my Google Reader is hating me right now. “I’m busy, bitch! Gawd, do you EVER go outside??”

Thanks for the definition. I always wondered but was too damn lazy to look it up. These are good reads. Thanks for the leads to some good blogs.

Kendra – I was stumped for a photo to use as the lead. Who knew meme was actually in dictionaries?

Wow, thanks for including me! It may take me a while to post this. I’m 2 months prego today and in the throes of all-day morning sickness. blech.

Thanks again for thinking of my little blog!
