So I told y’all a while back that I had a job. A design gig. It’s done. Well, sort of. But that’s another post for another time.
Anyway, I have to admit to cracking right up when I was told I could get paid to do something I love to do. When I submitted my proposal, I waited for them to say, “El. Oh. El, biznatch. We’re not paying you this ridiculous sum of money.” Instead, they said, “Sounds good. When can you start?” I suddenly understood why there are people who really don’t mind getting up and going to work every day.
Every day since that day, I’ve worked diligently on that site, and I’ve loved every second…well, every second of the designing. I’m still not a people person, kids. But my contact with this particular company just so happens to be D’s hubby, Jim, whom I happen to adore nearly as much as I adore his wife. So it wasn’t so awful. Plus, Jim is a smart, secure guy. He’d have an idea, I’d shoot it down and he’d concede that I was right. Bill could take lessons from J-Dawg.
During all of this, a few friends came and asked me to rework some minor things on their websites, and being all smart and stuff like I am, I thought, “Huh. Maybe I could make this whole design thing work out as an ongoing gig.” Oddly enough, I have. So, in the interest of shamless self-pimpery, I present my own little design site.
What do y’all think?
Steph is participating in x365 and thinks you should, too.

I think you are brilliant. One for the simple fact that you can design; second for the fact that you could turn it into something profitable; thirdly, you work for a friend; fourthly, you can love your job.
Kendra - I do love it. I’ve been doing it for free for years now. When I found out people would actually *pay for me to do it, I might have done some Cabbage Patch’ing and Roger Rabbit’ing.
Cabbage Patch’ign :dies: I got a visual of that dance and then you *doing* that dance and then you doing the Running Man and just LMAO!
Yeah, Jim is used to being told he’s wrong…A LOT. So he learns to concede pretty quickly. LOL But dude, I swear, when that guy thinks he’s right, it’s a fucking battle of the wills with each other. Then I hate on him SO HARD!
Your site looks rad dude and as you know I LOVE my site and anyone who asks (0r doesn’t) I tell them that you should do it.
That means you, Cary!
You go girl! Congrats on being able to take what you love and make money doing it. If there was a way I could get paid to shop, I’d be a happy camper!
BTW, gobble de good should be up later tonight.
beautiful! can you make my site fun and interesting? one that gives my *cough*6loyalreaders*cough* the desire to come back and read my shit? k?thx.bye.
seriously. you kick some serious ass… and, if i come across anyone who needs some web design help, i will send them your way.
i’ve always been in awe of you creative/nerdy types. i am SO the polar opposite.
kudos. hearts, sunshine, rainbows, bunnies and unicorn milk. for real, yo.
oh, and i meant to say - if i could find a way to make oodles and oodles of money to play soccer full time? i would.
d - Jim is seriously easy to work with most of the time. I have to admit being glad I have his “secretary” on my speed dial, though. LOL. I love your site, too. I think I might be prouder of your site than mine. LOL.
Melanie - Thanks! :) Also? I hope that gobbledy-gook is up already!
MoFM - Funny you should ask - I’m about to do a few free blog layouts just to get a little traffic. One for Wordpress self-hosted, one for LJ (I have a following over there LOL) and one for Blogger. These should be going out within a couple of weeks. :)
Also? You athletic types make me jealous. People who like playing a sport? Buh whaa? Does not compute.
steph! congratulations! if you are as incredible and helpful to your clients as you’ve been to me, there’s no question you’ll be a success.
Myra - Awww. Thank you! But honest - you didn’t ask for much from me. I was more than happy to help whatever little bit I could. :)
Very crisp & clean. I likee.
Eden - It’s a bit unexpected given how my blog looks, isn’t it?
