So, my friend, Missy, is getting married in 258 days. I feel that this is not nearly enough time for us to adequately plan for her wedding. And by “plan for her wedding,” I mean “find her the right shoes.” Of course, she feels differently since she believes that getting married on a beach in Hawaii means she gets to forgo shoes. I suppose I can see the logic there, but my heart longs to find the perfect pair of Weitzmans or Choos or Spades to go with the wicked fly dress she found. (I’d link to the dress, but I’ll let her show it off when she’s ready.)
At any rate, whilst looking at Missy’s dress selection, I found a very ’40s style dress that I happened to love. (Again, not providing a link so as to not steal Missy’s thunder here.) This got me to thinking about my own personal style…well, really it got me to thinking about my absolute lack of style and the reasons for it. Part of it is simply laziness — my current wash & wear & sleep in it & wear it again style is easy-peasy if not stylish. Part of it is a lack of funding — with my husband seeking work, now isn’t the time for me to run out and buy a bunch of new clothes. Another part of it is simply that I hate the way I look in clothes. But mostly, it’s that I didn’t know what kind of style I wanted.
So yesterday, I saw this vintage wedding dress, and I thought about how much I’ve always loved that vintage look. I think Dita Von Teese is one of the most beautiful women on the face of the planet. But I also think Kat Von D is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and I love, love, love the pinup style intro LA Ink had going on. All of this lead me to doing a little research. Ah, Google, how I love thee. What I found was a website that might have changed my life forever.
MY PEOPLE! I found my people. Vintage hairstyles with funky colors? June Cleaver dresses that show off gams which are fully inked? Hep kittens with cat’s eye glasses and brow piercings? And the shoes, oh, the shoes. Be still, o black and tarry heart of mine. Stepford gets glam…and punk. Oh me, oh my, how my closet is going to change.
