So # 66 on my list was – Rather than a material gift, make a donation to charity in someones name.  When I wrote it, my favorite pescetarian/humanitarian BFF Leah came to mind.  She is my oldest best friend, not in the way that she herself is old.  In the way that we’ve been friends since our heady days in high-school where we dressed up like the spice girls for Halloween day during Spirit Week.  Alright, that may have been TMI.

Now I thought of her because she has got to be the most remarkably giving person I know.  She’ll gladly scoop up a wounded animal on the side of the road overlooking the possibility of rabies, fleas, ticks, blood or guts should there be a change the animal could be saved.  She’d gladly give up all her worldly possessions in order to bring happiness to another human beings life.  Not to mention she’s got to be one of the smartest, funniest, most well rounded human beings on the planet.  Not only that, but she is also stunningly gorgeous.  If she wasn’t my BFF I’d hate her fo lyfe but I’m bless to have had her stick with me thru thick and thin these past many years.

So when it came time for Christmas, I shot her an email letting her know that I’d had this idea and that I’d like to do it in their name.  What charity would they prefer?  Being the amazing person that she is, she insisted that we save the money and put it towards something for ourselves.  Only when I threatened to pick a charity myself did she finally give and asked that we donate to World Vision.  They’re actually a great organization that accepts donations and in doing so provides livestock to less fortunate countries.

“The early-morning bleating of a dairy goat is a happy sound for children in countries like Haiti and Malawi. They know it’s ready to be milked! A goat nourishes a family with fresh milk, cheese, and yogurt, and can offer a much-needed income boost by providing offspring and extra dairy products for sale at the market. It even provides fertilizer that can dramatically increase crop yields. A perennial favorite, both to give and receive!”

So when I got the confirmation email from World Vision that our Donation had been received and was greatly appreciated I felt a great sense of pride and connection to the world. Not only had we given to a very worthwhile organization, we were able to do it in the names of our dear friends who mean so very much to us in the spirit of giving and the holiday season.

I hope you and yours had a wonderful Holiday Season!
