So, I’ve noticed something about my littlest rat. She’s sneaky. Very, very sneaky. Like for all these months, I’ve held her nearly constantly, and I freely admit that was in part to make sure she never learned to do anything that the other little rats who live here went and learned to do. Because, you see, Tricia is my very last little rat. She needs to stay a little rat, unlike her older brother who is now fully two inches taller than me and left me behind in shoe sizes long ago, that not-so-little little rat.
But my super-sneaky littlest rat has gone and learned to do things despite my best efforts. First, the little rat learned to roll over. Okay. Fine. That’s still pretty baby little rat-ish. Then, she had the nerve to learn to crawl. Not as fine, but still on the “baby” side of things. So, okay. Then when she learned to pull herself up, not so okay. That’s heading toward territory known as “toddlerdom”, and I am not okay with that. However, it’s a fait accompli. What can I do?
Now, though, NOW that littlest rat of mine has really gone and done it — she’s cruising! She’s pulling herself along on things AFTER she pulls herself up on them! The nerve of that kid! After I have discussed with her AT GREAT LENGTH why she needs to stay a baby little rat, she goes ahead and starts doing THIS. What next? FULL-BLOWN TODDLING?!? And then, that littlest rat has the nerve to give me the biggest grins she can muster when she realizes I’m watching her cruise around.
Sneaky, I tell ya. Just plain sneaky.
