I decided to post a few links here. Some of them hit very, very close to home for me for reasons that many of you already know. My decision to post this was painful because posting this means acknowledging not only the abuse I endured but the abuse I’ve doled out to my own family and friends.
However, I decided these links are relevant to my life right now and could be very helpful to someone else out there. I would encourage anyone who believes themselves to be a victim of abuse or a perpetrator of abuse to get help now. Even if you’re not sure, go talk to a professional. End the cycle. Find your value. Reclaim your life.
I think the biggest thing I’ve realized is that having kids doesn’t make me a mom any more than having a piano would make me a pianist. Like any other skill, mothering requires education and training and then implementing what I’ve learned. I only wish I would have realized this sooner. I can only hope that I haven’t left my children scars similar to my own.
