Ask Lenna

Ask Lenna, but be prepared to face the wrath.

So, after repeatedly asking Lenna whether or not she wanted to do the whole “Ask Lenna” thing and repeatedly hearing, “Yes!!!!!”, I thought that she, you know, wanted to do the whole Ask Lenna thing. Maybe she did, at some point, but today was not that point.

Today was spent listening to whining about how Tricia got a new hat when Lenna wanted a new hat and how Lenna never, ever gets to do anything fun ever. Well, the afterschool-until-I-went-off-with-friends-and-bagged-this-scene-like-yesterday’s-garbage part of today anyway. (Yes, I went out without Bill and the kids. Yes, I had a good time.)

At any rate, since “Ask Lenna” has been put on hold until…well, until who knows when, I thought I’d address one of the most frequently asked questions. Okay, it’s been the only question I’ve been asked lately, but we’ll ignore that part, okay? Let me have just a shred of dignity here, please?

So, why is my domain name quirkyblogger.com while my website is titled “The Stephford Diaries” and my username nearly everywhere else is StephMsDiva? If you’ve been on my LJ friends list, you already know the answer or at least part of it. But for the other people person who reads this blog, I’ll explain.

My original (well, sort of) AOL screen name was StephMsBitter. (That’s a story unto itself, but that’s for another episode…err, post.) When I was less bitter, I decided it was time for a name change that reflected that. Since I’ve always been a diva, StephMsDiva it was. And StephMsDiva it’s been since early 2002. Since then, I’ve signed up for miscellaneous other sites and services, and I’ve stuck with StephMsDiva. It feels like home, I guess.

ANYway, when I decided to create a blog, I needed to find something new, something no one would associate with me. After all, if people went a-huntin’ for my blog, they’d assume I’d used stephmsdiva yet again. Ha HA, suckers! I chose quirkyblogger for reasons I think are obvious — I’m quirky, and I blog. More importantly, though, I felt free to create whatever I wanted in my blog since it was a fairly clean slate, and I was being upfront about what kind of person I am.

I started out with two LJ friends — my little sister and her BFF. Through reading here and there and joining Add Me communities and the like, I managed to acquire quite a few LJ friends. (I love every last one of them, by the way, even if I totally suck as a commenter, I read faithfully.) I was happy in my little LJ blog for quite a while.

Then one day, I realized that there was a mighty blogosphere just waiting for me to take it by storm. Or at least waiting for me to use a blogging platform that would allow nifty, shiny, blog-blingy widgets. So off I went to Blogger. During my stint on Blogger, I read more than a few sites about increasing blog traffic. First and foremost, out of everyone’s mouth was, “If you’re not ready for a self-hosted blog, at least get your own domain name.”

So, I decided to get a domain name. I got advice from LJ friends and e-mail loopmates. The Stephford Diaries was one of them because my friend, D, once called where I live Stephford. (She’s punny like that.) I decided that it would be entirely too easy for someone to mishear that as “The Stepford Diaries” and never get to my blog. So I went with quirkyblogger, but in my heart, my fondness for “The Stephford Diaries” just never died, and so I used it as the title of this blog.

Since I’ve bored you beyond words already, I’m sure, I’ll save the story about why I went from Blogger to a self-hosted WordPress for another time. You’re welcome.

You are entirely too good looking for your own good, and I so understand the cougar thing. Oh, eww. I just icked myself out with that. Seriously, though, you're also a good guy. Total package.
