So, Amber guessed it correctly. She is soon to be the proud owner of a $25 gift certificate to the e-tailer of her choice. Oh. What was it, you ask?

So now you know. Congrats to Amber! (Hey, Amber? E-mail me to let me know where you want your GC from, please?)
Now on to the other stuff, yesterday Lenna had her very first cheer competition. Sadly, our girls are too little to actually compete, but no one explained this to my oh-so-competitive girl. She was crying after the competition because they hadn’t won anything. So I had to explain to her that girls her age aren’t getting trophies, but if she sticks with it, she’ll have a chance to really compete later.
This wasn’t really enough for my girl because she is a fierce competitor. She wants to win…at everything. I’m not sure why she’s this way, since we’ve never put much stock in rewarding results so much as rewarding genuine effort. But she is this way, and so she’s bound to have her heart broken a few more times by life.
One thing that made me super proud is that our girls were considered for the Spirit Award. This award has nothing to do with actual cheer performance. It’s basically a “good sports” award — the girls who cheered for their competitors, showed the most spirit, etc. The final decision came down to the Mt. Holly Mighty Mites (our girls) and the Mt. Holly PeeWees (a few years older than ours). I am honestly thrilled that we’re involved in an organization that recognizes good sportsmanship in addition to encouraging good performances. I’m suuuuper-proud that of all the towns represented in that competition, our town had the final two teams considered for that award. Lenna is not thrilled that her team didn’t win that award.
Anyway, I’m now off to try to get my life and house put back together after the drama of the past week. I know, I know — I said I would explain that to y’all. I shouldn’t have said that, as I don’t care to get into it here. Suffice it to say that setting boundaries and changing the dynamics of relationships to reflect a healthier mental state isn’t always popular or easy.
And with that, I’m off.
