…by reading at least one banned book is completed. That’s right. On the very last day, I finished Faulkner’s “As I Lay Dying”. Procrastination, thy name is Stephanie.
At any rate, it’s done. I would share my thoughts on the book, but I’m not particularly sure what my thoughts on it are, at this point, and aside from that, this isn’t a book blog. Boy, that might be fun, though. Of course, I’m betting the kinds of books I normally read are a little lowbrow for that kind of venture. Huh. I’ll have to mull this over some.
ANYWAY, if you didn’t compose a “101 in 1001″ list and include anything about reading a banned book or two (or all of them), there’s no particular reason you couldn’t go on and do that, even though Banned Book Week is officially over today. So, how ’bout a little Faulkner for yourself? Or maybe some Angelou? Shoot, even A.A. Milne is on the list. I know — what’s offensive about “Winnie the Pooh” for cryin’ in the night? Yet, it’s on the list of the Top 100 Banned or Challenged Books. Crazy, innit?
So go read a banned book. Give your kids a banned book. Give the crazy cat lady down the street a banned book. Celebrate the fact that we live in a free country with free speech already, wouldja?
