  1. My love for you is completely unconditional. Sure, I might not approve of some things you do, but I will always love you. No ifs, ands or buts.
  2. No one’s opinion of you matters nearly as much as your own. And yes, my babies, that includes your mama’s opinion. That hurts me to say a little, but it’s true.
  3. Telling the truth is a good thing, but you don’t have to share all your thoughts all the time. (Lenna, my darling, my precious, my dear, that one is for you.)
  4. Being cute only takes you so far in life. Being smart lasts a whole lot longer and goes a whole lot further.
  5. Money can’t buy you happiness, but love doesn’t pay the bills, either.
  6. You’ll do your best parenting long before you have kids.
  7. Pick your battles. Ask yourself if this will matter in ten years. If so, then it’s a good battle. If not, let it pass.
  8. Sometimes being happy is more important than being right. (Dr. Phil said this first, but he’s got some good ideas every so often, so I felt free to borrow this one.)
  9. Stealing is wrong. (Yes, Matt, that one was for you, my boy.) And most of the big stuff comes down to stealing. Murder is stealing someone else’s life. Rape is stealing someone else’s power over their own body. Abuse is stealing someone else’s feelings of security and safety. So just remember stealing is wrong, and you’ll probably manage to avoid getting into too much trouble. Well, that’s what I’m hoping and praying anyway.
  10. Family is the only thing that really matters. A brand new car in the driveway of your brand new house isn’t going to understand that your parents were some effed up people the way your siblings will.

Those were just the first ten that came to mind. I’m pretty sure this might turn into an ongoing list, but I make no promises.
