This meme…

…seems to travel the interwebs pretty often. The general idea is usually to pick some number of things you wish you could say to people and then post them in your blog, sans names.

It’s a meme I both like and dislike. I like the idea of getting a few things off your chest now and then, but I dislike the idea that the person they’re intended for might never know about it. Worse, in my never-ever-not-once humble opinion, too often a statement is taken to heart by someone for whom it was never meant. So. I’m going to do this meme, but with the offer to answer honestly if you ask me if the statement was meant for you. (In some cases, it will probably be quite obvious to whom I’m writing, I think.)

1. I really love and admire you. I wish I could be more like you, and in fact, there are lots of times I ask myself what you would do in a certain situation. So far, that’s actually worked pretty well for me. Except I can’t afford Coach purses.

2. Why can’t we just be like we used to be? When and how did this get to be so damn hard?

3. You thanked me for doing something that I was supposed to do. I realized at the moment I read that thank you (complete with cyber-hugs) that I had been failing you for quite some time. It was a moment of epiphany, and one for which I heartily thank you, my friend. I realized right that second that I would strive much, much harder so that you would never again thank me for simply doing what I was supposed to do. I would make it so that you could rely on me without question, without fail from then on.

4. I question our friendship on a regular basis. There are times I feel very close to you and times I feel completely shut out. So, if you’ve asked yourself why I’ve been distant or pulled away, there’s your answer — I quit slamming my head against brick walls a while back.

5. Stop using your “disease” as a frelling excuse for being a selfish, bitchy, irresponsible, non-parenting asshat.
